HISTORY OF THE INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM OF HUMOUR IN ART
The International Museum of Humour in Art is universally recongnised by everyone with an important reference to foreign artists, researchers and enthusiasts about the humorous culture. It was founded in 1970 by Luigi Mari, a doctor, painter and caricaturist from Tolentino, the same man who organised in 1961 a humorous art contest that met such success that it was open also to foreign artists already at its second edition, becoming the so-called International Biennial exhibition of Humour in Art: an important rendezvous for more and more artists from all over the world. Set up in the halls of the builidng Palazzo Parisani-Bezzi (where in 1797 the peace treaty between the Holy See and Napoleon was signed), the museum found in 1993 its current placement in the monumental building Palazzo Sangallo (designed during the XVI century by the architect Antonio da Sangallo the Younger).
